Services for Chambers
Historically, the growth of Chambers has tended to be organic – either through pupils or by the recruitment of recently-called barristers. However, in recent years, it has become common practice for Sets to recruit lateral, more experienced practitioners. The increasingly competitive environment for legal services and the many issues that today face the Bar, prompts the need for the consideration of strategic measures that will enable progress, development and survival.
Additional members of Chambers can boost either depth or breadth of practice so as to maintain a recognised standing in the marketplace, or allow credible entry into new areas of practice that can be provided to an existing, established client base. Whatever the reason for expansion, redbag can assist Chambers to identify and attract suitably qualified new members to achieve desired objectives.
Equally a Chambers cannot progress and succeed without the support of committed, high-calibre staff. Good clerks are essential for any chambers but for them to be able to focus on their core expertise chambers often also need the involvement of other professional managers. We are well versed in the day-to-day operations of any Set of Chambers and are therefore able to assist with the hiring of chief executives, practice managers, directors of finance, administration and marketing.
Our Register
The success of a barrister can often depend upon the Set in which he or she is a member. The infrastructure of Chambers, and the areas of practice within it, can make or break a career. We maintain an extensive register of barristers who have expressed to us a positive wish to seek a career move, some of whom may be suitable for your Set either as replacement or additional tenants. Barrister recruitment is an ongoing activity for any Set, so please ensure that you notify us of your changing requirements on a regular basis, and we will actively explore possible acquisitions for you.
Advertising and Selection
Occasion arises when a structured advertising campaign can attract candidates who might not otherwise have come to the attention of Chambers. redbag has considerable experience of managing advertising campaigns on either a named basis or under our own brand if confidentiality is a consideration or anonymity is preferred. Media selection and timing need careful consideration if maximum impact is to be achieved. Be there a need for new members of Chambers or senior support, we can undertake the mechanics of an assignment for you in a timely and cost effective manner.
Search
Direct search, or headhunting, is another method of recruitment, and is best employed when the pool of potential candidates is relatively small. In situations where we do not have a conflict, redbag can undertake Search campaigns on behalf of Chambers, including specific targeted approaches, where the involvement of a professional intermediary is the appropriate method of approach. We conduct all Search assignments with a high degree of sensitivity and integrity.
Mergers
With the consolidation of the legal market, a Set may need to achieve its strategic objective by way of full merger with another Set. A number of successful mergers have taken place in recent times, and we are able to assist in the process of identifying potential suitable marriage partners, initiating approaches and facilitating discussions.
